SPLITTING
This story was born at Adelaide Writers' Week, 1998. I was there to attend the
launch of a poetry collection and accidentally ended up in a lecture on
The Lure
of Mathematics
.
Splitting, in which a woman steps out of her life and into one she likes
better, was broadcast on Radio 5UV South Australia, in September 1999. As my
first published fiction, I retain fond feelings for the heroine, Bridget Tucker
and her private revulsion for pickled octopus

AN EDWARDIAN CHILDHOOD
"It was the consistency she loved about her
Spode, the reliability. If you looked after it you could hand it intact to
your
grandchildren. Break a piece and you could replace it with another exactly the
same. Unlike marriage, Spode lasted."
An Edwardian Childhood was broadcast on Radio 5UV in May
2000.
